Accusative Case: Defined Object (-(y)I)

The Accusative case is used to indicate a specific direct object. If the object of your action is known, specific, or has been mentioned before, you must use this suffix.

💡 Grammar Rules:

  • Follows 4-way vowel harmony ($ı, i, u, ü$).

  • Use buffer "y" if the noun ends in a vowel (e.g., Arabayı).

  • Watch out for Consonant Mutation (e.g., Kitap → Kitabı).

When to use the Accusative Case?

  1. Proper Nouns: (Waiting for Ayşe → Ayşe'yi bekliyorum).

  2. With Demonstrative Pronouns: (Buying this jacket → Bu ceketi alıyorum).

  3. Possessive Structures: (Visiting my grandmother → Anneannemi ziyaret ediyorum).

  4. Specific Objects: (Washing the car → Arabayı yıkıyorum).
