The Geniş Zaman is used for general truths, habits, and polite requests. It encompasses the past, present, and future because it describes things that "always" happen.
💡 How to form the Suffix:
If the verb stem ends in a Vowel: Just add -r.
Example: Anla (Understand) -> Anlar.
If the stem has 1 Syllable (ends in consonant): Add -Ar (ar/er).
Example: Yap (Do) -> Yapar.
If the stem has 2+ Syllables (ends in consonant): Add -Ir (ır/ir/ur/ür).
Example: Çalış (Work) -> Çalışır.
The 13 Exceptions:
These single-syllable verbs take the -Ir suffix instead of -Ar: (Take: Alır, Know: Bilir, Find: Bulur, Stop: Durur, Come: Gelir, See: Görür, Stay: Kalır, Be: Olur, Die: Ölür, Think: Sanır, Arrive: Varır, Give: Verir, Hit: Vurur).
